We’ve seen why clear aligners are such a popular orthodontic treatment, just as we’ve seen the questions patients have while using it.
One of the most popular questions is why Invisalign can sometimes feel tight. Let’s discuss!
Why Does My Invisalign Feel Tight?
Invisalign is a series of trays that you move through over time. These trays gradually realign your smile to make it straighter. It makes sense, then, that there are moments when they would feel tight.
There are a few different potential causes of this tightness:
- You’ve just transitioned to a new Invisalign tray – Because it’s designed to shift your teeth, your tray may feel tight when you first put it on.
- You need to wear your aligners for longer periods of time – Aligners are designed to be worn for at least 20 hours a day, and your teeth may not move quickly enough if you’re not following those instructions.
- Your teeth are moving faster or slower than expected – If your teeth are moving faster or slower than your orthodontist expected, you’ll need to meet with them so they can formulate a revised treatment plan.
What Should I Do if My Invisalign Isn’t Fitting Correctly?
There are a few different options you can take if your Invisalign isn’t fitting correctly. The easiest is to use chewies. These help the Invisalign tray slide onto your teeth.
If that doesn’t work, you may need to backtrack to the previous set of retainers. If this is the case, we recommend speaking with your dentist to determine the best course of action. They will be able to provide advice geared towards your specific situation.
